I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie
Pam deBarres is the quintessential party girl. Shes had a wonderfully fulfilling life meeting all sorts of rock stars because she knows how to meet them. Throughout her life, she slowly learned how to approach them, and to present herself in such a way that these rock stars cant say no to her. What fun! Her lifestyle is extreme, and I would have held back long before she went that far. But thats why I read her book. She shares her stories with her readers. She has the personality, the looks, the
I get the whole worshipping at the altar of the rock god but this often bordered on ridiculous obsession. I was impressed by the creative means Pamela went to make her rock wet dreams come true. She really puts herself in the midst of the scene, time after time. Ruthlessly pursuing the latest shiniest hip swivelling rock star to catch her attention. Im equally grossed out and in awe of her...or maybe just a little bit jealous!Although this book is not about the writing, its atrocious at times,

If you enjoy reading about sex, drugs and rock & roll, then this book will be to your liking. It's what I consider a "guilty pleasure" read - complete brain candy - filling, but with no lasting nourishing value. I occasionally like gossipy books about celebrities, as well as rock stars and this has both of each. I read it some years ago, but from what I remember there is a lot about Mick Jagger, Keith Moon and even more of Jimmy Page of the late 60's and early 70's. Free sex and love with an
Mmm, salacious readings!Or not. This really wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Miss Pamela is frank, but not explicit. Actually, I debated for a while whether to read this or not, but I finally decided I would. It was all done in the name of research, though, so I'm glad it was relatively mild. (To get in the proper mindset for a story I'm writing, I am reading almost every sixties memoir/biography I find that looks interesting. Though let's face it, I'd probably end up doing that at some point
This was a complete and utter train wreck of a book. The writing was horrendous, and if not for the subject matter, I felt like it was written by a 6th grader. The storytelling was shoddy and sloppy. I largely just felt sorry for the author. But despite all this, I could not put it down. Sleeping with either Jimmy Page or Mick Jagger would have been a life accomplishment, but Miss P slept with both of them; she had pseudo-relationships with both of them, among a number of others. She nannied for
This book was so great I plowed through it in less than 24 hours after getting it. Miss Pamela was a true rock n roll courtesan and glided with ease through the lives of legends like Frank Zappa, Jimmy Page, and Mick Jagger. At the heart of it all, she is a true super fan and she never "grew out" of the ability to go stark raving mad for a guy rocking out on a guitar. I could have done without so much of the straight-from-the-diary introspection, but it also made the memoir more accurate by

The stylish, exuberant, and remarkably sweet confession of one of the most famous groupies of the 1960s and 70s is back in print in this new edition that includes an afterword on the author's last 15 years of adventures. As soon as she graduated from high school, Pamela Des Barres headed for the Sunset Strip, where she knocked on rock stars' backstage doors and immersed herself in the drugs, danger, and ecstasy of the freewheeling 1960s. Over the next 10 years she had affairs with Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Waylon Jennings, Chris Hillman, Noel Redding, and Jim Morrison, among others. She traveled with Led Zeppelin; lived in sin with Don Johnson; turned down a date with Elvis Presley; and was close friends with Robert Plant, Gram Parsons, Ray Davies, and Frank Zappa. As a member of the GTO's, a girl group masterminded by Frank Zappa, she was in the thick of the most revolutionary renaissance in the history of modern popular music. Warm, witty, and sexy, this kiss-and-tell–all stands out as the perfect chronicle of one of rock 'n' roll's most thrilling eras.Point Books Toward I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie

I listened to the Audible version (read by the author). I expected a really exciting tell-all about a magical and turbulent time in American pop history and some of the big personalities that inhabited my Los Angeles stomping grounds 20 years or so before I came on the scene. I was interested in a little behind the scenes 411 about Jim Morrison, Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Frank Zappa, etc. Instead, this was a vapid, nearly 11 hour long monologue which was, for the most part, devoid of anythingPam deBarres is the quintessential party girl.
