At 85 years young, Lillian has had a interesting life, to say the lest.Inspired by the real life poet and advertising copywriter, Margaret Fishback, Lillian BoxfishThis book, told in Lillians voice, is pitch perfect. It captures the times, the place and the woman perfectly. It just felt like I was right in Lillians head. Lillian and I were born 50+ years apart, but so many of the issues were the same for both of us, like being one of the few women in our profession and fighting for equal pay. It also struck me that I'm reading this on Equal Pay Day in 2017, so some things still haven't changed. But the message here is to enjoy life no matter what it throws

I was eager to read this book and was fortunate to be able to receive an e-ARC to be able to read it pre-publication.I adored this woman (Lillian) and the way the author (Kathleen) was able to make Lillian real to me. I underlined so many lines that I found either profound or lyrical. Kathleen Rooney turns many new phrases. She does not rely or even lean on trite or mundane.I will read this book over and over and over again.Thank you St. Martin's Press for allowing me the joy of this read.Three

Youve got a job you love. Youve earned respect and success, even though its normal to be paid less than a man. But youve met someone. If you marry and have a child (as everyone expects you to), youll lose the job you love. Welcome to twentieth century America, where women are valued for youth and fertility, rather than brains and ability. Its enough to drive a girl crazy or should I say drive a woman crazy. As Lilian comments - recalling a psychiatrist calling her a reasonable girl- I was not
I enjoyed Lillian so much. I loved her. The pace of this book was a little slow, but I think it was worth reading.Mini review posted to Litsy: 3.5 Stars - I finished #LillianBoxfish this evening. I admired and respected Lillian. I found her to be very real, flawed, and interesting. The pace of the book was a little slow. The ending fell a little flat for me, but I enjoyed the authors writing style. I am looking forward to our final discussion Sunday, and I am excited to find out more about the
