The kids really liked this book that we started during Advent and continued through the Christmas season. We skipped the questions at the end of each chapter and didn't worry about matching the reading to the days in Advent. The kids like the suspense at the end of many chapters, and it does give a good feel for the world at the time of Jesus' birth, the good and bad.Our family loves this series. We read Jothams Journey last year and thought this was even better. I think we will take a break next year and do something different, but will probably jump back in and read the next two after that.
I was back volunteering the following year and heard this one read aloud too! Its just as good as the first, and even ties in some of the original characters!Bartholomews Passage is an engaging story that guides families through the Advent season with reading for each day. Young Bartholomews adventures start when Roman soldiers destroy his village and disperse his family, continue through his enslavement to a tyrannical master and his escape with his new friend Nathan, and end with a reunion
great story for me and my boys to hear and think about during the advent and Christmas season. loved that it really gave us a feel of what life was like back then, and made the longing of the Messiah real for us. however, it was kind of an awkward read aloud at times... just not really well written. the violence was a little too intense for me my sensitive 8 year old and 6 year old... but I could easily edit them. It was exciting and did usually make us want to read more!
This book, along with the two others in the trilogy, has been a regular part of our family's Advent traditions for quite a few years now. They're well written, exciting stories that really bring the time of Christ's birth to life. Our kids beg us to read more every night! Rotating through them, one each year, is a great way to focus on the reason for the season and prepare our hearts for Christmas.
This series is wonderful for families wanting a fun reading for Advent. This is the fourth of the series we've read (3 are advent and one is Easter) and we've loved them all.
Really entertaining, especially if u read it out-loud andor as a family.Recommended ages 89 & up.Recommended as a family read-aloud.
