It's interesting that fans of Games Workshop/Black Library's Warhammer 40,000 universe tend to align behind the two sides in the Horus Heresy, the great galactic civil war that set up the status quo of the universe. So you have fans of the Emperor of Mankind and his loyalist Space Marines and forces and you have fans who root for the Space Marines who turned traitor and aligned with the forces of Chaos. Both sides have noble and ugly qualities based on your perspective, but I tend to identifyDembski-Bowden definitely keeps the pace up in each of the Night Lord Novels and I quite enjoyed having the novellas and short stories centered around Talos slipped in-between. One of the best characterizations in the Chaos-centric books!
Aaron Dembski-Bowden delivers us an immensely entertaining read. We're treated with something far beyond a compelling story and phenomenal characters (both of which are present here). What do I mean? Finally, we're able to see the dynamics between many of the post-heresy traitor factions, and the mentalities behind them. From the various Night Lord warbands, to Abaddon's vast Black Crusade force, to the empire-like Red Corsairs. All-in-all, this is a must-read for Warhammer 40,000 fans. It's

So good. Didn't love the ending but they died as they lived :(
This is my fourth time reading the Night Lords trilogy in over 10 years - having lost my decade-old, battered first-edition copy of Soul Hunter all those years ago. What can I possibly say that hasn't already been said much better by other readers? First Claw feel trope-y and feature as the template for many 'ADBisms' to come, and don't grow significantly deep character until Void Stalker, but nevertheless exist as a milestone (the milestone?) in Chaos Space Marines fiction.
