Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favourites, so I wanted to read a collection of his, for this time of year. I chose this edition because of W. Heath Robinson, a favourite golden age illustrator of mine - his illustrations give a special atmosphere to the poems that I liked very much. Also, I would pretty much read anything Dover publishes."To shine on us with her bright eyesCome up through the lair of the Lion,With love in her luminous eyes."From his essay The Philosophy of Composition:"I haveA moody, passionate collection from the O.G. (original goth). The Edwardian-era illustrations are gorgeous - the style reminds me of some famous tarot art (Morgan-Greer, and Palladini's Aquarian), which adds another flavor of mysticism to the poems - but I wish there were more. The end of the book was a little confusing, as it switched from Poe's poetry to part of a play and then some essays, but it was interesting nonetheless.*Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, provided by the author and/or the
Honestly a good read that I could just touch on here or there whenever the need arose. A bit of love and romance blended with the expected dark and dismal atmosphere of poe. A win for poetry lovers and regular Joe's alike.
This isn't my first time reading Edgar Allan Poe. I've been a fan for years and always enjoy his works. I've already read most of the works in this book but still enjoy re-reading the ones I've read before and the new ones. It's filled with lots of his popular works like, "The Raven" and "Annabel Lee". This is a great starter book if you wanna give him a try, between his writing and the art mashes well. Artist W. Heath Robinson did illustrations for this book, in the ARC I got didn't have much
I recieved a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.Oh, Poe. This is a beautiful collection of poems and illustrations. Even though my copy wasn't the full book, you get enough content to see how great it is. Can't wait to pick up a copy or two.
dnf'ing ~20% injust can't get into poetry lmao, maybe i'll revisit in the future
I haven't read Poe since high school and I am remembering how much I love his writing. He can have such an impact in so few words. Some poems I didn't like but some I loved.
