Even though the first book in this series wasn't my favorite, I cared enough about the characters (and like the time period) to continue reading. This book was better. It didn't follow as many characters and so wasn't as confusing as the first. I appreciated the theme of trust the author built around Psalm 91, one of my favorites, and most timely right now. I plan to read the final book.Not my thing. It was too depressing from the get-go, which is something I find common for me with historical fiction--so if you're a real fan of the genre, you might like this book. Also, I didn't realize it was book 2?
This book picks up 10 years after the first book of the series and starts just before the collapse of the New York Stock exchange. The writing was detailed and interesting as the Thoene's continues the saga of the main characters from the last book.

This series is truly exceptional. Can't wait for the 3rd in the series!
"A Thousand Shall Fall" is a historical novel set in September and October of 1929 and leads up to the stock market crash. This novel is the second in the series, but you don't need to have read "In My Father's House" to understand this one (though it will make it more enjoyable).
