Douglas was called upon to use his profiling techniques to link the other five murders to the suspect. Douglas looked at the "signature" of the killer, and found that all the murders were committed by the same man. The prosecution used the profile to force the jury to find the defendant guilty ofall six murders, if they felt he was guilty of the one murder. Celophus Prince was found guilty on all counts.
The schoolgirl murders -- What became Canada's "trial of the century." Several schoolgirls disappeared in 1992; their bodies were dumped several weeks later, beaten and sexually attacked. Canadian police agencies contacted the FBI for help on the case and to get a profile on the killer and, according to witnesses, his accomplice. Following the advice of the Investigative Support Unit in Quantico, Canada aired a television special entitled "The Abduction of Kristin French, " allowing agent Gregg McCrary to describe the killer's profile on air. Knowing that the murderer and his accomplice would be watching, he planned to confront the unknown killer, assuring him he would be caught. Paul Bernardo was arrested on February 17, 1993, turned in by his wife and partner in crime, Karla Leanne Homolka.. The profile was dead on the money.

I just went to pick this up via scribd on audio for a readathon and apparently Ive already listened to this??? and yet I havent marked it as read and literally dont remember it whatsoever??? so uh. whoops.Darkness is right. The MINDHUNTER author examines some cases he's worked on, takes an outsiders' forensic view of the Simpson/Goldman murders, advises readers on ways they can protect their families from violent crime, and shares some of his own opinions on controversial legal topics. Some of the crimes profiled are indeed very, very bad, and are likely to upset readers. I don't think the author does this to be shocking, but rather make readers aware of what kind of violent crime is out
"Enjoy" is a word most people probably wouldn't use to describe how they felt about a book of this type, but it's how I feel. There's a lot of interesting information presented in "Journey Into Darkness" and, even though I've done a lot of research for my novels, there's a lot in the book that's new to me. Instead of focusing only on the crime and the criminal like a lot of true crime books, I liked the way John Douglas also discusses how criminal profiling started and how it's used, along with
All filler, no killer. Pun intended.
It is interesting to see what makes criminals tick. I like to think I learned ways to protect myself and the people I care about. I choose not to be a victim.
Fantastic. Simply impossible to put down. Everybody would do well to read this book, as disturbing as parts of it are. As the author asserts, some things should not be pretended away or ignored. Additionally, the author's argument against the futile attempts of rehabilitation in certain cases, and his arguments for capital punishment are hard - if not impossible - for a reasonable person to disagree with.
The subject matter was a little too dark for me here. Having read Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit, I was intrigued enough to look into some other true crime books by John Douglas. Journey Into Darkness claims to look into the why's of criminal deviant (mainly sexual) behaviour, and offers to explain the inner workings of these criminals minds. Although going into this I knew the descriptions and details of various violent crimes would be intense, I found them a little bit
