I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review by Net Galley. This book was good, but a little too descriptive at times. Also, the first half went too slow compared to the second, so maybe I'd have shortened the first 150 pages. The heroine was likeable, as were the 'romantic interests' (if they can be called that, as there's not much romance in this book). What i hated the most was the whole 'everyone likes her at first sight', except the antagonist, of course. The rest of the charactersI was surprised to learn - after I read it - that it was first published in 1978. Great story thread. Can't wait to start book 2.
Stacey is a captivating protagonist. I remember reading this as a teenager and falling in love with her. She's captivating and tenacious. I based a D and D character on her in college and she inspired a character in my own fantasy series. Be sure to read The Haven first

Best story ever!I have loved this book for so long! Read thru it countless times. Lost my copy, had it replaced and lost it again!! All because I take it everywhere with me! Now I have a digital copy I cannot possibly lose! (fingers crossed)
DNF, pg 113. Contrary to the fabulous cover art & cool line-drawings inside (props to José Gonzalez), it's not salacious, or sexy, or even action-packed. The setting is bland. The characters are bland.** The story is bland. It's just...well...bland. Maybe it picks up later, but when you're 100+ pages into a 400-page fantasy & you're still not interested in anything aside from an elderly wolf's funeral, it's time to quit. Standard 2-star DNF rating. It felt more middle grade or YA than
I really liked this book. It was dystopian like and I like those. It kept you engrossed throughout the story. Was there some parts that could have been left out.. yeah but they did not detract too much from the story. Will I read more from this author? Maybe.. although I liked it I cant say I am a fan of "period pieces".
