Light on Shattered Water (Life of Riley #1)
An epic parallel world story exploring the intricacies of an inhuman civilization, and what that exploration can do to the explorer.
My review from amazon.com dated 3/29/2013Title: Maybe not my kind of book. The description sounded really great and so I decided to read the book even though it was very long. After about 100 pages I decided to review the description again. I found out that it is one of the best flurry novels out there. I was not expecting that and knew some parts be odd to me but I kept reading it because I hate not finishing a book. The author is very description which is usually very great, but I found it to be
An absolutely delightful book by a wonderful writer in control of his craft. A true alien study and highly rewarding. Yes, it is uncomfortable in many spots as you join the main character in trying to emotionally understand the unfamiliar intelligent race who inhabit the familiar earth. I have already bought the next book in the series and will start it as soon as I can.

G. Howell writes an extremely engrossing tale......Imagine waking up in the wilderness and not knowing where you are or how you got there, and that the world is not inhabited by humans. The author did a remarkable job making this alternate world a reality. Sit down and make yourself comfortable as you follow the life of Mikah Riley.
This book was riveting and read like the first draft of a bestselling author's work. It could use an editor but I read it off the author's site a while ago so maybe it's been fixed up since. The world is well thought out and the characters feel like they are thinking for themselves. Some readers might call the story "furry" in relation to the fetish but to me it felt more like sci-fi/low fantasy and the fact that most of the people in it are cat-people could have been replaced with any other form

Chronicle Toward Books Light on Shattered Water (Life of Riley #1)
Michael Riley was looking forward to his leave and expecting some quality time away from his workstation with his fiance in the mountains of Vermont. What he wasn't expecting was for his life to change forever when he found himself in a land where he was unique; a world where humans had never existed, but where greed, intrigue and betrayal were as common as ever.An epic parallel world story exploring the intricacies of an inhuman civilization, and what that exploration can do to the explorer.
